Frequently asked questions

How do I play Sunwise?

Hold anywhere on the screen. How far your thumb is from the star sets how wide your planets swing round it, and they smash whatever they touch. Pull in to block fast things like comets, swing wide to reach things that keep their distance, like pulsars, and let go to let the ring drift back. A stage is won once everything it sends is smashed and the sky is clear.

Is Sunwise free?

Yes. Sunwise is a free Android game, coming soon to Google Play. It shows a few ads, never during a level, and its shop is optional: every level opens by playing.

Does Sunwise need an internet connection?

No. Sunwise plays completely offline, and your progress is saved on your device. The Android app goes online only for its ads, for purchases through Google Play and, if you use it, for Google Play Games. Without a connection no ads appear, and one more life that would ask for a video is given anyway.

How do I get three stars?

Stars come from the health your star keeps: three if it ends a stage with at least 70%, two from 35%, and one for surviving. The stars at the top show how many are still possible as the stage goes on. A stage won on one more life earns one star.

What happens when the star burns out?

The stage stops, and the card names what got through, with a tip for next time. You can take one more life once a stage, which in the Android app comes from a short video you choose to watch, or try again, or go back to the levels.

How do upgrades work?

Smashed hazards drop light, and your planets sweep it up. When enough is gathered, the stage pauses and offers three different upgrades to pick from. There are twelve, from more planets and moons to a ring that turns the other way, a pulse from the star and burning trails, and every stage starts again from two planets.

Is there a hint?

No. Nothing in Sunwise is hidden, so there is nothing to hint at. Each chapter's first stage sends its new hazard early and on its own, with one line on screen saying what it wants.

What is the daily sky?

Once you finish the first chapter, a short sky opens every day, the same for everyone. Everything in it arrives in the first half minute and you are timed until it is clear, so swinging out to meet it early brings your time down. It grows from Monday to Sunday.

How do levels open?

A level opens once you clear the one before it. Levels come in chapters, and clearing 14 levels of a chapter also opens the first level of the next, so one hard level never walls off the rest. In the Android app a locked level can also open early, with a level key or a short video, and Every level in the shop opens them all.

Does Sunwise have ads?

A few, and none ever covers a level. Once you have cleared 3 levels, a banner sits at the foot of the title screen and the level list, and never on the screen you play on. Once you have cleared 12, an ad may come between levels now and then: at most once every 4 levels you clear, never in the first 3 minutes after the app opens, and never within 4 minutes of another full-screen ad. Videos are always your choice. The Supporter pack turns the ads off for good.

What can a short video do?

A short video, always your choice, can give you one more life once a try, open a locked level, give you a level key, or let you try Every level, the Planet pack or the Themes pack for 6 hours. When a try ends, the planet set and colour theme go back to the game's own, and every level you cleared stays cleared.

What is in the shop?

Everything in the shop is optional, and two planet sets and two colour themes are free from the start. The Supporter pack turns off the ads, and one more life never asks for a video. Every level opens every level now, while stars are still earned by clearing. The Planet pack adds two more sets of planets, Glacier and Orchard, and the Themes pack fifteen more colour themes. The Complete pack holds all four, for less. Each is bought once and stays with your Google account, and Restore purchases brings it back if it ever does not. Level keys, one or five at a time, each open one locked level for good. The tip jar is a way to say thanks, and opens nothing.

Does Sunwise collect my data?

Very little. There are no accounts of our own, and your progress and settings are kept on your device. If you use Google Play Games on Android, it also keeps a copy of your progress in your own Google account, with your leaderboard scores and achievements. The Android app counts how the game is played with Google Analytics for Firebase, such as which levels are started and solved, only where the law needs no consent for it and never for ads. The ads in the Android app come from Google AdMob, which collects device and advertising identifiers, approximate location from your IP address and how you interact with ads, with your consent where the law requires it. The privacy policy has the details.
